gardening stuff
Jun. 2nd, 2005 11:08 pmWe have strawberry plants! A couple of them have some little green strawberries already. Tomorrow we're hoping to plant some sage in the top of the strawberry pot.
We also have a new stevia plant. In the fall, we'll be harvesting the leaves, and will probably have cuttings for anyone who wants a plant of their own.
The apricot tree looks like it's going to have a nice crop soon. The fruit isn't quite ripe yet, but there's a LOT!
Our Asian plum bushes seem to have quite a few plums, but I have no idea what color they're going to be when they're ripe.
The little peach tree has a lot more peaches than we expected a spindly little thing to produce.
The lemon and orange trees are still exploding.
We have an "accidental" sunflower, probably 8 feet tall. Two years ago, the property owners grew sunflowers in their garden. This last October, the area where their garden used to be was dug up so they could build the garage behind our house. Apparently the digging helped to make optimal growing conditions for some remaining sunflower seeds in the soil. Because the construction area was fenced off, the lawn was never mown in that spot, so the sunflower grew tall and strong. It looks like it may have up to seven heads on it, and one's about to open!
So, let's see...
Sunflowers, watermelons, butternut squash, lemon & pickling cucumbers, apricots, possible peaches, plums, lemons, juice oranges, tomatoes, red bell peppers, strawberries, thyme, Greek oregano, orange mint, stevia, maybe some sage, and some lettuces (if we can get them to grow... they're a little sunburned).
Also have some basil, chives, parsley, and nasturtiums sprouting in little seedling pots.
Wow! I didn't realize we had so many plants!
