spiderdust: (spider and icefire)
Last night, we ended up in the ER until 3am. Not for me, though; for [livejournal.com profile] ldyicefire.
Around 10:30, she began to feel dizzy, turned grey, had difficulty breathing, and had some tightness in her chest. She also seemed very distant and detached, and couldn't form complete sentences. [livejournal.com profile] punkmom loaded us into her car and we went to Stanford Hospital (which has probably one of the most useless ER security guards I've ever run across; absolutely no understanding about how to deal with patients and their families).

She got a bed fairly quickly, and she seemed to improve after they gave her some oxygen, but they couldn't figure out what had happened. Since she was ok a few hours later, they sent us home.

Today, other than suffering from lack of sleep, she seems all right. We still don't know what happened.

The Shortest Day
by Susan Cooper

So the shortest day came, and the year died,
And everywhere down the centuries of the snow-white world
Came people singing, dancing,
To drive the dark away.
They lighted candles in the winter trees;
They hung their homes with evergreen;
They burned beseeching fires all night long
To keep the year alive,
And when the new year's sunshine blazed awake
They shouted, reveling.
Through all the frosty ages you can hear them
Echoing behind us - Listen!!
All the long echoes sing the same delight,
This shortest day,
As promise wakens in the sleeping land:
They carol, fest, give thanks,
And dearly love their friends,
And hope for peace.
And so do we, here, now,
This year and every year.
Welcome Yule!!
