the weekend

In an effort to save some money (plus it's supposed to be environmentally kind & low in skin irritants), I'm digging up my old homemade laundry detergent recipe. Hopefully I'll get this made sometime either tomorrow or Monday.
FELS NAPTHA HOMEMADE LAUNDRY SOAP
(recipe found on the Friendly-Freezer list at yahoogroups)
1/3 bar Fels Naptha Laundry Soap
1/2 cup Arm and Hammer super washing soda
1/2 cup Borax
3 pints Water
Grate the Fels Naptha Soap. Put in a pan with 3 pints of water, and heat until dissolved.
Stir in 1/2 cup washing soda and 1/2 cup Borax. Mix and heat until all ingredients are dissolved.
Cook for 15 minutes. It will look similar to honey. Remove from heat.
In a large bucket (3 or 5 gallon), put 1 quart of hot water, then add the soap. Mix.
Add 5 1/2 quarts cold water (or enough to make 2 gallons total mixture). Mix until well blended. Set aside for 24 hours. It will gel up.
Use 1/2 cup for each load.
We had planned to go to the San Francisco Pride Festival tomorrow, but I think we've decided not to go. We're worried it will be too long of a day (not to mention we'd have to be on the train at 7:45am!) & we've also heard rumors that it might not be safe. We went to a pride festival earlier in the month, so we'll just skip this one & watch the parade on TV. We can still have a good family day without going up there tomorrow.
I'm rather worn out right now... today we ran a ton of errands: Costco, Trader Joe's, Target, and one of the grocery stores we needed to go to. I was exhausted & decided we needed to call it a day even though we still needed to go to two more stores. Nexus brought the Munchkin & me home, then took all of the laundry to the laundromat (the apartment complex has raised the prices for using the washers here, so we've started taking the laundry elsewhere) while I fixed Munchkin dinner. Watched Good Eats (realized it was a rerun), taped Oliver's Twist, and glanced a little at Iron Chef (a rerun we already have on tape). Nothing too exciting to relate, just another busy Saturday.
