"Men and women exhibit the characteristics of their own sex from the moment they’re born they just look, think and act differently. But what are the real distinctions between them? What would happen if men and women could live as their opposite sex for one month? That’s the premise of the two-hour A&E SPECIAL PRESENTATION: ROLE REVERSAL.
"A team of gender experts transforms two ordinary men into women, and two ordinary women into men. The four participants are: Starla, a 40-year-old women’s rights activist; Ryan, a 22-year-old college graduate; Tye, a 27-year-old aspiring playwright; and Ary, a 31-year-old professional trainer. Viewers join the quartet as they live together for one month in a New York City apartment.
"In this A&E SPECIAL PRESENTATION: ROLE REVERSAL the four strangers put gender stereotypes to the test. They see first hand how their other half lives. Isolated from friends and family, the four undergo a sexual identity boot camp, learning to speak, act and move as the opposite sex. Their training prepares them for the ultimate challenge of publicly passing as the sex they’re not. The experience teaches our subjects more about themselves and the world around them. And while some easily gain acceptance in their new personas, others encounter the darker side of gender bias and social expectation. It’s clear that even though men and women see the same things, they view them from different perspectives. So perhaps by reversing roles, men and women can finally see eye to eye."
