catching up on my life
Oct. 4th, 2002 02:15 am:According to the OccMed physician, my wrist is all better. She was a little taken aback when I threw my hands up in the air and proclaimed, "I'M HEALED!!", like someone from a tent revival.
:I think my lentil/split pea mixture might be a little too old to use in cooking anymore. I made a soup with them in the crockpot today (after soaking them in water overnight, since they never got completely soft last time I used them) & let them simmer on low for several hours while I was at work, and the peas were still a little crunchy. :/ Time to buy new ones, I suppose. What can I do with the leftovers?
:I am now the proud owner of a few pairs of ear plugs. Hopefully they will keep me from being woken up at night.
:Today (Oct 3rd, that is... I guess it's technically Oct 4th now) was my sister's birthday, and I never had a chance to call her.
:Speaking of birthdays, mine is in 8 days.
:I wish I had taped the chess game episode of Lexx.
:I'm going to a birthday/sno-cone party this weekend. I wonder if it would be appropriate to bring a bottle of wine along?
:With the longshoremen's union strike that's going on right now, I realized today just how many things could disappear from our store shelves...
the Belgian chocolates
the French pastries & the ganache
other imported desserts, like the tiramisu & the German strudels (which aren't on the shelves right now... they were supposed to arrive this week)
bananas (yes, bananas! They're imported!)
the 69 cent dried pastas from Italy
lots of the wines... luckily we have a ton of California wines, but the imported ones are popular.
the mineral waters, like Gerolsteiner (from Germany), Galvanina (from Italy), Blu (Italy), and San Pellegrino (also from Italy... but it's made by Nestle, so I won't miss it!).
probably 90% of our beer section... most of our beers are imported!!
all of the non-domestic cheeses (Brie, chevre, Stilton, Gouda, feta, etc.)
fresh mangos...
I respect the workers' right to strike, but I hope things get resolved soon. I don't know how I'll be able to explain to the Munchkin why we can't buy bananas.
:Tired now. Want to sleep.
