settling in
Sep. 8th, 2004 11:26 amAnyone know of a good place for apple picking around here? I have a root cellar now, so I have a place to keep them for long storage.
(This seemed like a good post for my autumn icon, too!)
Also, who wants to help me with our yard? We've got a bunch of rose bushes, plum bushes, an apricot tree, an orange tree (HEAVY with oranges... we're going to have quite the windfall in January!), and a lemon/grapefruit tree. In addition to all that, we've got some sort of climbing jasmine vine, a rambling herbal garden patch that has some lavender (and something that might be sage?), plus a bunch of flowers around the porch (I've been told some of them may be echinacea; I don't know for sure).
We'd also like to have a vegetable garden, but know it's pretty late in the season for one. Still, we might be able to get a cover crop started and till it in the spring. We shopped all over for a compost bin yesterday (yes, I know we can build one for cheap or free, but we're really wanting a spinning bin) & were suprised at how difficult they are to find. Any one have any composting stories to tell? Words of advice/warning?
