Halcyon Days

Today marks the beginning of the Halcyon Days.

The seven days before and after Winter Solstice are traditionally considered times of calm and tranquility (although many of us seem to have forgotten that tradition, and it seems to be one of the crazier times of the year).

The ancient Greeks believed that somewhere in the world, the gods calm the storms of winter so that kingfishers (known as halcyons in Greek) can lay their eggs on the sea. More of the myth can be found at Wikipedia.

This is a good time to remind yourself to slow down, put your feet up, and enjoy a cup of tea.
