I really don't know what to say.

Apparently my mom has cancer. Unfortunately, she thought the best way to tell me was to just casually mention it over the phone while I was at work.

yesterday's conversation with Mom

[MOM] Oh, I've been tired lately, with all of the running back and forth to the hospital.

[ME] Huh? Why have you been going to the hospital?

[MOM] Well, yesterday they removed some lumps from my thyroid, and I had to get another colonoscopy the other day, since they have to keep an eye on things now. But they think they got everything. We just have to wait to see how the tests come out on the other lumps from my thyroid.

[ME] (thoroughly confused) Mom, what are you talking about? What lumps?!?

[MOM] Oh, you know. (No, I don't. She's never told me about this.) They removed some polyps from my colon earlier in the month, and yesterday they took out two malignancies from my thyroid and took some other things out and sent them to the lab.

[ME] ... you've got CANCER?!?

[MOM] But they think they got it all.
