disappointed with Disney
Oct. 29th, 2002 05:46 pmLast night
ldyicefire and I rented the Disney version of Peter Pan for the Munchkin. I hadn't seen it since I was little & remembered liking it a lot back then.
I'm watching it with the Munchkin right now & I don't think this is a movie that we'll be purchasing or renting again any time soon. I hadn't realized how horribly non-PC it is... the whole "Injuns" thing is insulting and demeaning. I'm surprised this got released to DVD... Song of the South is not available for sale here in the US, mostly because of the racism, so why is this one easily found?
What makes this even worse is I'm part Cherokee,
ldyicefire follows Lakota traditions, and Nexus father is half Native American (Cherokee, I believe, but I'm going just on memory). This was so wrong to bring home.
