road trip to Modesto
Jul. 30th, 2002 02:44 amI went to visit my brother today; he's a LDS missionary in Modesto, CA. Or at least he will be for a few more days... he goes back home on Aug 9th. This was the 1st time I had seen him since Munchkin was 18 months old. Time seems to just fly by nowadays.
He didn't know we were coming (he can't receive phone calls & I had forgotten to write and tell him), so he was VERY surprised and happy to see us. Today was his free day, so Nexus, Munchkin & I went bowling with my brother and his companions for a couple of hours. The bowling alley was having a "moonlight bowling" event with black lights and glow-in-the-dark bowling balls and glowstick bracelets. Munchkin was absolutely thrilled. She had never been bowling before, and the fact that there were neat lights and bracelets made it even better.
I may have accidently outed myself/my family to him though, or at least I'll have some questions to answer one of these days. We have a rainbow bumper sticker on the car that says "FAMILY CAR" and a license plate holder that says "LOVE MAKES A FAMILY" with a little inverted triangle on it. Queer family pride stuff. My brother and his companions noticed them. DOH!! Oops. Oh well. :/ I didn't say anything about it, figured I'd let my brother come to his own conclusions, and acted as if nothing was amiss at all. I figured if I acted uncomfortable about it, or tried to cover it up, or made some excuse for that sort of thing being on the car, I'd probably end up with a negative reaction or even end up making it obvious what it stood for if he hadn't picked up on it already.
Overall, I'm glad I went to see him. I was exhausted this morning & almost decided that I wasn't up to going, but in a few days he'll be across the country & a lot more difficult to visit.
