Right after Nexus lost his job in mid-February, I had a dental appointment & was told that I needed a root canal. Since it wasn't hurting me, I figured I'd put it off until he found a job. (The price tag on the root canal had a lot to do with my decision.)

So here it is, July... and he still hasn't found work, and my jaw really HURTS this morning. *sighs* I guess I waited too long.

Time for me to browse through all of my books and study online to see how I can deal with the infection at home, because I definitely can't afford this right now.

mostly unrelated stuff

~I think we might cancel cable next month... we have a ton of TV shows that Nexus taped (over the past 2 years) that we haven't watched yet, plus I can tape a bunch of FoodTV & Nickelodeon to watch later. We'll probably still have PBS, so no need to tape Sagwa and Zoboomafoo and Dragon Tales for the Munchkin. Besides, we've been cutting down on the TV watching, so it should be easy to stretch out a tape of episodes.

~Oof. My torso aches. While Nexus & Munchkin were out doing the laundry tonight, I did a bunch of stomach crunches. I've made a goal to start taking better care of myself, and Nexus promised me that he'd make sure I had time to do it. He'll watch Munchkin if I want to go over to the gym or for a walk, and I could probably use the pool at night.

~The basil plant seems to be growing! I haven't killed it! It has little leaves sprouting off of the top. I need to get some soil soon so I can put it in a bigger pot. I'd also like to get a few more plants, like some rosemary. The last rosemary plant I had got sprayed with ant spray by the apartment maintenance people (grrr...), so I had to get rid of it. I wouldn't mind having some vegetable plants, but it might be too late in the season for them.

~I helped Munchkin make a picture frame tonight, which she decided was for Nexus. She took a cardboard frame and glued little pompoms & craft foam shapes around it, and stuck some heart shaped & star shaped stickers on it. It actually looked kinda cute.

~I really need to get my hair brushed out tonight. It tangles up so quickly, and starts dreading. It needs a trim really badly, too... although the last time I got a haircut (over a year ago), the stylist decided that "just a trim" meant to take off 8", and she didn't shape it up, either. I've been a little leary about getting my hair cut around here since then.

~Looking through my cupboards, I found a lot of matzoh that I need to use up. I'll probably make some matzoh ball soup or matzoh brei sometime soon. I've found a recipe for matzoh meal and cottage cheese latkes, but I'm not sure if anyone in my family would eat that.

~Sling Blade was on TV tonight. It's weird how much the town & people in that movie remind me of Shelby, NC.

~I still don't have any sugar cookies with buttercream frosting. *pout*
