Munchkin and Uni celebrate in style

Yesterday wasn't just [livejournal.com profile] the_munchkin's birthday; it was also the 1st birthday of her stuffed unicorn, Uni.

In addition to her festive hat, sash, and bow, Uni also received a police uniform costume for her birthday.

    Officer Uni and Dectective Munchkin

According to Detective Munchkin, she and Officer Uni are working on The Case of the Lost Gem.

She's exactly 7 years and 14 hours old right now.

    Time flies, doesn't it?

I'm listening to my daughter doing a dramatic reading of Calvin & Hobbes, realizing that a lot of her recent wit is coming from the comic strips.

    hee!

Just bought 2 tiny VNV Nation t-shirts for [livejournal.com profile] the_munchkin and her friend to wear to the concert at the end of the month.

Yes, we're bringing children to the show. :)

How many people can say they went to their first industrial show when they were 6?

I'm not entirely sure, but I think [livejournal.com profile] the_munchkin was just sleepwalking.

Or at least, [livejournal.com profile] nexushoratio just found her yelling, half-asleep, and disoriented in the closet down the hall from her room. I think she was trying to walk to the bathroom and went right instead of left.

Come to think of it, it's probably good that he found her before she sat down in there.

While making King Cakes with [livejournal.com profile] the_munchkin this morning, the question came up about how canned biscuits work and when they were invented.

Anyone know? We're finding lots of stuff on Google, but it's not quite what we're looking for.

ETA: We ended up calling Pillsbury and asking them. It turns out that canned biscuits were invented in the 1920s by a man named Lively Willoughby. At the time, he called his product "Old Kentucky Buttermilk Biscuits" and sold them door to door.

Pillsbury is going to send us a packet of info so we can go over this with [livejournal.com profile] the_munchkin a bit more.

Last night, we helped Munchkin sum up her year in the [livejournal.com profile] munchkinacademy journal.

Made a post in [livejournal.com profile] munchkinacademy this morning. For those of you who don't know, it's the Munchkin's homeschooling journal. Unfortunately, we've neglected to post in it for a while. We'll try to remedy that.

    It's 8:23am.
    Munchkin is still asleep.

The adults, however, are all up.
We have the cats to blame.

... she wants me to post this in my journal so she can share it with the world.

    Kitty Cat Dance

(Hey [livejournal.com profile] iceblink and [livejournal.com profile] insomnia! Doesn't the cat look a little like Blixa?)
    spiderdust: (oh no!)
    "Mommy, what's a god?"

    Oh, boy.

Today I spent some much-needed quality time with the Munchkin. She and I went to the bank to make a deposit into her savings account (something that makes her feel very proud). After that, we wandered over to See's Candy where we browsed for a while. She picked out a lollipop to save for her dessert, then she & I got some lunch.

We took a nice leisurely walk back home, then watched "Prince Caspian". She wanted to go swimming, so she & [livejournal.com profile] ldyicefire got in the pool for a while & I read some magazines near the pool and chatted with them.

It was a nice day. She agreed. :)

It's off to work I go.

I'm leaving the Flexeril at home & just relying on ibuprofen today. I've got a stool behind the counter that I can sit on from time to time, but I know my back's going to be pretty tired when I get home.

Tomorrow's going to be a tiring day too; Munchkin has a soccer class, then we head over to San Francisco's Aquarium By The Bay for a homeschooling field trip, and then I have an appointment in the city. After that, a quick (ha!) stock-up trip to Rainbow Grocery & then the drive home. We should arrive back at our place around 7pm or later. :(

There never seems to be enough time to slow down...

There's a couple of new posts in [livejournal.com profile] munchkinacademy.
    spiderdust: (rotating cam pic)
For those who didn't already know, the Munchkin is a homeschooled child. I set up a new journal today to help me keep a record of this stuff. I don't know how many posts a day it might average... maybe lots, maybe one every couple of days. It probably depends on the day & how often I remember to write stuff down.

If you're interested, the new journal is [livejournal.com profile] munchkinacademy. Her actual homeschool name is "(her real name) Academy", but I generally don't use her real name online nowadays. So Pseudonym Academy it is! ;)

I may or may not decide to make it friends only. At the very least, entries with pictures of her will be friends only.
